subject: Design Index

The purpose of this book was twofold: to help me learn everything from design history to typography, and to make a good example of print work. The process of its creation began with extensive research, and ended with self-publishing. The book is imbued with ambiguous forms and handwritten notes intended to push the boundaries of design and to challenge a largely Eurocentric canon. Additionally, there is extensive vertical typography to force readers to rotate the book as needed.

subject: Blueprints

This book was created over a week of ideation, sketching, designing, foraging, cyanotyping, and binding. The 3D designs were inspired by the work of futurist Buckminster Fuller, while its narrative is a deeply personal story about depression and loss. Native plants were layered over the computer generated imagery to add contrast in forms, juxtaposing increasingly neglected natural environments with indestructible digital worlds. The book is ultimately about grief and transformation in the 21st century, both of which are represented by the rich cyan.

subject: firefly

firefly is a book of symbols about perfectionism, intuition, and methodology. It was created during my second year at CalArts. Designers were challenged to create hundreds of symbols about an animal of their choice. Making these symbols required extensive experimentation and research to make each image communicate a single word succinctly. After finishing, I compiled them into a zine about the animal and process itself.

subject: processed food

This book was made using photogrammetry. Its tongue-in-cheek content challenges capitalism and consumption while teaching its viewers about photogrammetry. Its tone was inspired by online creepypasta.
