subject: T-Shirt Show Design

The T-Shirt Show at CalArts is an annual event hosted by the Graphic Design program. All design students, from BFAs to MFAs, are invited to submit designs which are then blind juried by the student body. The top 15 designs are then made into t-shirts and tote bags, and sold at the T-Shirt Show. All profits go to the Graphic Design program. My design won 2nd place at the 2022 T-Shirt show. The design is critical of CalArts’ relationship with Disney. The zipper on the backwards facing Mickey lends an uncanny feeling. Viewers are left to interpret the image and its mirrored typography.

subject: Tierra Divina

Select images from a branding project for an imagined conservation center based in El Salvador. Tierra Divina, meaning Divine Earth, is a center dedicated to the preservation of native flora and fauna. The imagery is centered around the torogoz, El Salvador’s colorful national bird. The images display the ambiguous boundary between animals and the environments they live in. The appearance of the torogoz, like many animals, parallels its habitat due to adaptation. Adaptation is interpreted not as a Darwinistic, dog-eat-dog portrayal of life, but rather as an interdependence which emphasizes the importance all organisms play in creating our environment.

subject: Burritos

Select images from a series of 30+ illustrations I created to explore a variety of image making techniques featuring the humble donkey. Each image was created with the intention to research materials, form making, and styles. This project helped me find my stylistic strengths and weaknesses. Just as well, creating this series refined my design process, as they were all made within the span of only a few weeks.
