song: Robot by t.A.T.u

Designers at CalArts are challenged to create motion graphic visuals for a song of their choice. The song I picked, Robot, is an early 2000s techno throwback with an undulating beat and catchy lyrics. I emphasized the style of music, beat, and fast pace with a limited neon color palette, schematic graphics, and experimental type. The video was built with Autodesk and Adobe Suite.

title sequence
song: Plantasia by Mort Garson

This title sequence was made for a fictional show called Despues that would take place in modern day Latin America and feature an ensemble Latinx cast. The art style is based on the paintings of Salvadoran folk artist Fernando Llort, and the slow burn pacing references post-colonial idyllic lifestyles.

song: Harmony by The Avalanches

This animation was the result of a technical exercise exploring motion graphics in Adobe Suite. The goal of this project was to produce a mood congruent with the song of choice. Harmony is an electronic mix of samples with an uplifting energy. The video’s use of type and timing works in tandem with this energy to captivate viewers.
